Good luck to our athletes in the Mayo U9 and U10 Championships

Mar 7, 2026

We wish the best of luck to our new athletes, a lot of whom are competing for the first time! Remember to wrap up warm. It's often a good idea to wear a long sleeve top under the singlet because the kids may be standing for a few minutes before their race starts.

The Mayo U9 and U10 Championships are taking place on Sunday morning at Westport AC's track with the events starting from 10am.

Gates will open from 9am.

Access to the venue will be via pedestrian entry only up Horkan’s Hill. Balloons will be placed to clearly mark the car parks and the lane ways to be used. Car park marshals will also be present at each of the three school car parks. There will be no car access to Horkan's Hill.

Parking Options

  • Scoil Phadraig, Newport Rd, F28 V023, cross at pedestrian crossing across from Maxol and turn left, 300m to track

  • Rice College, Castlebar Rd, F28 TK64, cross at pedestrian lights, walk up along AbbVie, turn left up laneway to top of Horkan's Hill

  • Sacred Heart School, Castlebar Rd, F28 Y368, cross at traffic lights, turn right up Castlebar Rd, turn left up laneway after Bright Beginnings Childcare

Club photos will take place at 9.30am on the track in front of the Westnet banners.

Assembly will be called at 9.45am for the U10 Long Jump Girls & Boys and U10 Girls Turbo Javelin. U9 Girls relays will also be called at 9.45am and athletes will be brought to the assembly area.

The entry point to the track is at the clubhouse. Only athletes and officials are permitted on the track. Athletes will exit the track at the end of the sprint lanes, in front of the ambulance.

The track is 320m with six lanes. There are also seven 100m sprint lanes. The track is marked for 4 x 80m relays and all relay teams must remain in their lanes for the full race.
